610 and her three cubs were first seen Monday at Oxbow Bend and they have been putting on a show in the subsequent days. They look very healthy and have been quite active since emerging from hibernation.

So far their movements have been between Lozier Hill and Cattleman's. They were on the ice at Oxbow Bend yesterday and today and it has been EPIC!

I've shot so many pics it will take me a while to sort through and find the best ones, but you can expect to soon see plenty of pics from the early days of bear season in Grand Teton National Park!

Upcoming photo adventures.... https://kentnelson.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/3/upcoming-photo-adventures Just a quick post on what to expect over the coming months.

in April we should be getting our first pics of bears emerging from hibernation. It is always exciting to see old friends, such as Grizzly 610 and her two-year-old cubs for the first time after a long winter. For us bear aficionados it means spring is really here.

I might get some Hawaii photos up in early May.

The real highlight of late Spring/early Summer is going to be a long road trip north through the Canadian Rockies as far north as I can go. I am going to try to add to my relatively thin scenic/landscape portfolio. I also hope to add some good caribou shots to my wildlife stuff. It's possible that I'll cross into Alaska as well and add some of Alaska's brown bears to the mix.

Once I get back from the north it'll be bear season. Since my bear portfolio is good and my wold portfolio is thin, I'm going to make a special effort this summer to add to my wolf shots.

In the Fall of 2013 I hope to travel to Churchill and the surrounding areas for the polar bear congregation that occurs there.

Stick around, it should be a good year for pictures!

General Update https://kentnelson.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/3/general-update Hi all,

While Spring is officially here in Jackson Hole, you'd be hard pressed to prove it. There is still plenty of snow on the ground and we've had some zero degree weather in the last few days!

Animals have been scarce generally although a few reports of bear activity have been reported. Wolves are around, but it apparently takes more luck than iv'e been having to see let alone photograph them. There have been plenty of moose around Antelope Flats, and lots of coyotes too, and small elk herds have started moving tentatively north, but this hasn't resulted in a lot of photo ops. So, very few local photos being added to this site recently.

I continue to work through my Jan/Feb photos from East Africa and there will be more of those posted soon. Meanwhile I'm going to start moving Africa pics from the Newly Updated folder into their permanent homes in the folder hierarchy so if you can't find your favorite shots you'll need to dig deeper.

I'm going to add a few features over the next few weeks including sharing options, a comments feature, etc. I hope this makes the site more engaging.

So far, I've not added any sales and/or commerce features to the site, but do know that I will do so within months. It's complicated to do and I am working (semi-diligently!) on it.

All is well with me and my family, hope the same goes for you....Kent

Back From Africa https://kentnelson.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/2/back-from-africa Ann and I recently returned from a 3 week photo safari to Kenya and Tanzania. We visited Amboseli, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, The Serengeti and Ndutu.

We photographed elephants galore with kilimanjaro in the background at Amboseli and Tarangire. Ngorongoro had a little bit of everything. Spent a lot of time with leopards in the Serengeti and Ndutu. But undoubtedly the highlight of the trip was Ndutu, which is at the southern end of the Serengeti Plains.

We managed to hit Ndutu at the same time as the wildebeest migration, and let me tell you, that was insane. Animals as far as the eye can see. Wildebeest by the tens of thousands, zebras everywhere, predators all around; lions, cheetahs and leopards plus the scavengers like hyenas, vultures and storks.

We were traveling with Tom Mangelson and Sue Cedarholm as well as 9 other photo obsessed folks. We had a great time!
